“Hoje estou muito feliz porque somos um único mundo, juntos de casa. Sinto-me muito honrada de ser parte da luta das Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS) e Global Citizen contra o Covid-19 e no levantamento de recursos para o Fundo de Resposta solidária”, afirmou a cantora Lady Gaga, curadora do evento “Um Mundo: Juntos de Casa” que reuniu cantores, personalidades, artistas e apresentadores dos mais diversos pontos do planeta, todos de suas residências conforme a orientação da OMS.
O evento, que aconteceu dias depois da decisão de Trump – repudiada no mundo inteiro – de cortar o repasse de recursos norte-americanos para a OMS, acabou se tornando um repúdio mundial à nefasta atitude além de demonstrar um fantástico apoio ao trabalho da organização subsidiária da ONU, levantou em poucas horas US$ 128 milhões para apoiar a luta mundial contra o Covid-19.
Com apresentações, desde suas casas, de Paul McCartney, Celine Dion, Steve Wonder, Rolling Stones, Elton John, o programa também apresentou o italiano Andrea Bocelli, o nigeriano Burna Boy, o ator indiano Shahrukh Khan, o cantor árabe (Emirados) Hussain Al Jassmi e a atriz queniano-mexicana Lupita Nyong’o (filme 12 anos de escravidão), o evento foi especialmente dedicado aos médicos e enfermeiros, mencionando uma série de agradecimentos aos demais profissionais da Saúde e trabalhadores em serviços essenciais, como agricultores e urbanitários com cartazes trazendo a frase: “Eu fiquei no trabalho por vocês/ Fiquem em casa por nós”.
Os participantes buscaram ressaltar disposição de luta (como profissionais aposentados que se apresentaram para o trabalho) e mensagens de confiança e de unidade internacional, trazendo como frase central o provérbio africano: “O amanhã pertence aos que se preparam para ele hoje”.
Entre cenas mostradas entre uma e outra apresentação, mais menções aos profissionais de saúde “na linha de frente, nas trincheiras hospitalares desta batalha”, mostrando o aplauso em diversos pontos do mundo a eles e desenhos de arco-íris por crianças de várias localidades declarando: “Enfermeiros são heróis”.
Alguns dos pontos altos foram Jennifer Lopez cantando a música que adquiriu fama mundial na voz de Barbara Streisand, Peopple (de Bob Merril e Jule Styne); What a Wonderful World, numa bela interpretação por Shawn Mendes e Camila Cabello; e “A Change Will Come” (Uma Mudança Virá) cantada por Lizzo, entre muitas outras.
O evento teve a presença de apresentadores como Jimmy Fallon, Ellen De Generes e Ophra Winfrey.
O secretário-geral da OMS, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, destacou a importância do evento e agradeceu aos artistas, profissionais de Saúde e promotores do show:
“Hoje nos reunimos como um só para expressar nossa humanidade comum, para prantear os que nós perdemos, para saudar os trabalhadores da Saúde, que nos salvam, e dizer a uma só voz: ‘Nós não seremos derrotados”.
O Covid-19 tirou tanto de nós, mas também nos deu uma oportunidade única para que coloquemos de lado nossas diferenças, para que quebremos barreiras, para que possamos sentar e observar o melhor uns nos outros e para erguer nossas vozes pela ajuda para todos e para garantir que isso nunca volte a acontecer. O mundo possui organizações que se orgulham de tomar parte neste show de solidariedade. Eu quero agradecer a Lady Gaga, os muitos artistas e apresentadores, meu amigo Hugh Evans (fundador da organização que ajudou a realizar o show, a Global Citizen), às Nações Unidas por nos trazerem juntos como um mundo só, juntos em casa.”
Destacamos alguns dos líderes que expressaram apoio à OMS e repúdio à hostilidade de Donald Trump em declarações na véspera do evento, divulgadas pela Global Citizen:
– Jacinda Ardern, primeira-ministra da Nova Zelândia: “Em um momento como este, quando precisamos compartilhar informação e precisamos nos aconselhar com quem podemos confiar, a OMS pode nos fornecer isso”.
– Simon Coveney, vice-premiê e ministro do Exterior da Irlanda: “Esta é uma decisão indefensável, em meio a uma pandemia global. Tantas populações vulneráveis se apoiam na OMS – deliberadamente minar o financiamento é chocante. Agora é o momento de união para salvar vidas, não para divisão e acusações”.
– António Guterres, secretário-geral da ONU: “Agora é hora para unidade na batalha global para empurrar a pandemia do Covid-19 rumo à reversão, não é o momento de cortar recursos da OMS, que está à testa e na coordenação dos esforços desta entidade global”.
– Jimmy Carter, ex-presidente dos Estados Unidos: “Estou angustiado com a decisão de segurar fundos criticamente necessários dos EUA para a OMS, especialmente durante esta pandemia internacional”.
– Moussa Faki Mahamat, presidente da União Africana “A decisão do governo dos Estados Unidos de suspender o financiamento da OMS é profundamente lamentável. Hoje mais do que nunca o mundo depende da liderança da OMS para promover a resposta mundial à pandemia.”
– Boris Johnson, primeiro-ministro do Reino Unido: “Nossa posição é que o Reino Unido não tem qualquer plano de parar de financiar a OMS que tem um papel importante em liderar a resposta de Saúde do mudo inteiro”.
– Karina Gould, ministra de Desenvolvimento Internacional do Canadá: “Estamos desapontados com os cortes porque agora mais do que nunca uma reposta global coordenada baseada em dados acurados e na ciência é essencial”.
– Heiko Maas, ministro do Exterior da Alemanha: “Achar culpados não vai ajudar. O vírus não conhece fronteiras. Temos que trabalhar de forma muito próxima contra o Covid-19. Um dos melhores investimentos é fortalecer a ONU e sua subsidiária, a OMS, por exemplo para distribuir testes e vacinas”.
– Dr. Patrice Harris, presidente da Associação Médica Americana (AMA): “Cortar financiamento para a OMS – ao invés de focar nas soluções – é um movimento perigoso em momento precário do mundo. A AMA está profundamente preocupada com esta decisão e suas amplas ramificações e fortemente instamos o presidente a reconsiderar”.
